word from NateStay and Play (Rain or Shine) - May 4th!

I want to begin by saying sorry to everyone for postponing the stay and play from last Sunday to this Sunday. The weather just looked awful(rain and cold) and of course Sunday it didn't rain, but was pretty cold).

It was the only Sunday in the history of the VCC that I actually prayed for rain. But it didn't rain, and thus my sincerest apologies for trying to be a meteorologist.

This Sunday we are having our Stay and Play Rain or Shine. If it's raining or too cold, we'll have the 45 foot Noah's Ark Jumpie Inside one of the gyms and eat inside. If the weather is great, we'll be outside. I'd encourage everyone to bring a blanket or some lawn chairs to sit on and relax. Looking forward to a great Stay and Play after church this Sunday!

Life's QuestionsLife's Toughest Questions starts this Sunday.

We collected everyone's questions from March/April and the top three were.....

#1 - Forgiveness. How do I accept God's forgiveness? How do I forgive others? How do I forgive myself? I'll do my best to answer these questions about forgiveness from the Bible this Sunday (May 4th).

#2 - How do I share my faith with others (without coming off like a Bible thumper)? We certainly don't want anyone being labeled a Bible thumper, so join us May 11th for this important question.

#3 - Pain/Suffering - Why? Why do bad things happen to good people. How can God allow that. This is a very popular question and we will provide specific answers from the Bible on May 18th. The questions above were the most popular questions. but there were many other great questions that we wanted to have a venue to answer. So... for the next few weeks we'll be answering some of your questions via the e-newsletter. Here' the first Q and A....

Life's Q'sQ: What can you do about the way your siblings raise their children without church and Jesus in their lives?

A:  Thoughtful grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are a great gift to a child.  While being sensitive to the desires and intentions of the parents, the extended family can have such a wonderful, lifelong role in building children up spiritually.  The youngest children need little more than to be loved and cared for by the adults around them.  Building trusting relationships with faith-filled people sets them up perfectly for accepting a loving God later on.  Spend time with the little kids in your life doing the things that matter to them.  Helping to care for infants and toddlers also gives tired, stressed-out parents a break.  That kind of relief can bring out the best in parents and help to give the child a strong and loving home.

Find every opportunity you can to celebrate the child, and to remind them of your love and God’s love for them.  In addition to birthdays and holidays, losing a tooth, a ballet recital, a special sporting event, a good report card or an award…all can be great ways to tell children, “Look at how special God made you”!  Choose greeting cards with religious quotes or verses...or write your own blessings for the child inside.  When giving the child gifts, include a gift with some spiritual significance.  A gift card to a Christian bookstore can be great way for kids to be exposed to a wealth of great resources, and you could even be the one to take them shopping.

Create traditions with the special children in your life.  Perhaps the aunt takes her nephews out bowling once a month.  Or grandpa has a special date with his granddaughter twice a year.  These regular events are the way you build a trusting, long-term relationship with a child.  They are also the perfect setting for great conversations.  Other great traditions could involve taking the child to serve with you in a soup kitchen, at a park or beach cleanup, or reaching out together to those who are ill or disabled.  Being an active part of God’s continuing work in the world is a very concrete faith experience for kids, and communicates Christian values without even saying a word.

The most obvious thing you can do for a child is to pray.  Wear out your knees and never stop asking God to bless the children that mean the most to you.  Pray for their parents to find God, or strengthen their faith, so that they can pass on this important element to their children.  And then, ask God to help you find creative ways to be a shining light in a child’s life.
